Fabric Wrapped Mail Organizer

   My hubby and I recently went through a lot of reorganizing, throwing away old news and making a new system of taking care of important papers and things we need to deal with. With the new, more organized filing system, I thought our "mini" command center in the kitchen needed just a little help too. The little area of space on the counter next to the fridge is where all the mail/bills pile up until they can be looked through, here is where I came up with a solution.

To start, I grabbed some scrap fabric, a skinny canvas, cardboard, a stapler, and a hot glue gun.

 I cut the cardboard into 3 separate pieces that would fit across the canvas.

And covered the canvas with fabric and stapled it on the back.

The three pieces of cardboard were covered separately with fabric, too, then hot glued to the canvas on the side and the back.

I took some magnetic strips and hot glued them to the back of the canvas so it would stick easily to the fridge.

 
 
 
 
I just used scrapbook sticker letters to label the compartments "Out", "File", and "Coupons".
This will be a lot more helpful, and now maybe I can find the counter under all our mail!

"Verse of the Week"

   I found this idea a couple of different times on Pinterest and LOVED it, but instead of making it for our house, I made this one for our Sunday school classroom.
   I went to hobby lobby and picked up a medium sized chalkboard, white paint, and scrapbook stickers.

I traced out a rectangle and a decorative oval with a pencil on the chalkboard and painted around it with the white paint for the border. I added about 3 coats for it to cover the black completely.

Next, I found a font I like and imitated it for the letters with paint and a small brush inside the oval.

After all the paint dried, I added some faith-based scrapbook stickers just for embellishment. The plan was to paint the frame of the board, but things got a little busy so for now it's still wooden.

5 Question Friday

Hope everyone's Easter was great!


 1. Would you go to your high school reunion?
I don't think I would, it would be fun to see everyone, but really, how much do you not see on facebook now? I kind of wish people didn't use it so much for information so we'd be forced to be in each other's presence.

2. What's something that you've recently splurged on; either for yourself or someone else?
With our tax refund we decided we've sat too long on very old furniture, that we could finally buy our own and that's what we were going to do! I'm very happy with the new matchy-matchiness!


3. How do you handle your child's fever?
No children, but when my husband or I start to get sick I always call on my BFF (who just happens to be nurse), she always knows what to do lol.

4. What's the nicest thing to happen to you lately?
We have some patients (pets) at our (animal) hospital that have to have weekly fluid therapy. One of the owners that came today said she only wanted me handling her pet because she was so happy with the way he was handled in my care. No one ever hates  bragged on. :)

5. What is your current favorite song?
 That's hard because I always have so many at once, but right now I think it would have to be "My Hope is in You" by Aaron Shust. It's kind of old, but I found it again recently and it stays in the cd player in my car right now!

My Mom's Shepherd Pie

   When I was younger, my mom loved cooking shepherds pie for us because it was so quick and easy to put together and it has everything you need in it! My husband loves anything I put in a casserole dish so he was all over this! I know a lot of kids who also love this dish and it adds a little healthy vegis to the meal too!

Ingredients:
1 lb Ground Beef (or more if you have a big family)
1 can Cream of Chicken
Any vegetables you want (I used corn, peas, and carrots)
salt, pepper, garlic salt
Mashed potatoes
Cheddar Cheese

What To Do:


Brown your ground beef then add the cream of chicken and cook for 3-4 minutes on low.
Add your vegetables and salt, pepper, and garlic.
Prepare the mashed potatoes.


Layer your casserole dish as follows: Ground beef/vegi mix - Mashed Potatoes - Cheddar Cheese.
Bake in the oven for about 5 minutes on 350*, just enough to melt the cheese well.


The cheese being all melty makes everything so much better! It would be great pared with some rolls, we just didn't have any on hand lol.
