A Pinteresting Shelf

I love when I need an idea for something and I find it on pinterest! I wanted some kind of organization for my dogs' things and I came across this adorable pet shelf pinned from HGTV. We have dog toys, treats, medicine, and more all over the house because, lets face it, there just like kids!

Here's the inspiration:

Mine doesn't look nearly as cute, but I was worth the $2.50 I spent at the thrift store for all the supplies!

It didn't take a lot of effort either. I spray painted the shelf dark brown because I didn't like the look of the old wood finish. My hubby drilled it into the wall for me so it would be good and sturdy, then I screwed three hooks into the bottom section. The baskets were .25 cents each! I love a bargain, I'm also thinking of spray painting them white? It's a maybe. In the baskets I keep the dogs' medicine, brushes, clippers, and other small things, and obviously the leashes stay on the hooks.

WIW: The Wedding!

Megan over at Absolute Mommy is having a link-up today with WIW: Wedding! Of course I want to show you all my wedding pics, but I'll try to keep it to a minimum lol!

The theme was purple and green!

This was my wedding party. The girls wore short purple dresses and the guys wore khaki pants, a purple long sleeve shirt, and a lime green tie.
The bouquet flowers were daisies and anemones and the boutonnieres were white roses with purple accents.

This is my favorite shot of the back of my dress. It was an Emerald Bridal dress I found that was being discontinued.

This is a shot of me and my hubby... I was about to lick the wedding cake cutter hahahaha!

This purple ring is made out of pipe cleaners! I made a bunch of different colored ones for all the ladies involved in my wedding.

Me and my flower girl. My dress was SUPER long! When it was pulled up in the back, I loved the way it looked so much!

Linking it up here!

Weekly Photo Challenge

The theme of the challenge over at Our Reflection this week is : From a Low Angle.
This is a picture of one of my pup-do babies, Sunni. We were having a boring at home day without my hubby and I was just playing around with my camera lol. I really did like the way this came out, though.

Thrifting Around

Before I've talked about this one thrift store me and my hubby love going to. The owner basically knows us by name now lol. We love bargain hunting, especially when we find some really great stuff! This week we went to a couple of different places while we were off together and completely scored!

First, I found these great wooden shelves and a spice rack, which I gave a little sanding and spray paint, and  some scrapbook paper. :)

Then we found this AWESOME dresser for only $30!! I can certainly fix these little nicks in it for that cheap! And it matches our bed! I plan on changing the handles on it to.

This is what I was REALLY excited about... We've been looking into getting faux wood blinds for the living room because a certain two puppies keep sticking their heads in the mini blinds and tearing them up! I found these, the Perfect size, for only $20! And they're not the small ones, I had to have a 5 foot blind for the front window, at any other store I would have had to play $60!
Sunni doesn't like these non-bendy blinds haha.

And finally, We found an almost complete set of golf clubs WITH the bag (my hubs has really been wanting to learn) for only $25... a whole set! I was like Get 'em!! I have a couple of clubs, so now we basically complete the set together. He did great on his first day at the driving range, too!

5 Question Friday!

I'm so excited... One more week and I'll be in NOLA seeing the Foo Fighters!! I've got a lot to finish before I leave so I don't leave the blog in the dust haha.

1. Do you make your kids finish all the food on their plates?
I don't have children yet, but If I did, I would probably be like my mom was. I wasn't required to finish all the food on my plate, but I did have to eat as much as I could. I wasn't very picky as a kid, tho, so I wasn't that difficult.

2. Do you give an allowance?
Again, no kids, but the only way I see giving an allowance is ok is if they earn it with chores and other things, I don't believe a child should just constantly be given money for no reason.

3. Do you actually park your car in the garage?
We don't have a garage in this house, but if we did, I would so use it all the time! We do have a carport and I park the car in it everyday... that's close.

4. What is one food you will NEVER cook?
Asparagus. I hate everything about asparagus and my husband doesn't like it either so I will thankfully NEVER have to cook it!!

5. Do you have anything exciting planned for the summer?
Not yet, our anniversary is in the summer, so we'll probably have something planned, I'm just not sure what yet. I really want to take the hubs to Virginia soon to see the E.A. Poe museum!

All About Organization

My hubby and I work A LOT, and our schedules are almost always opposite each other, so when we have the rare off day together, we definitely do something to savor the time. Working like this, though, makes us pretty tired so we have to take full days (sometimes our off days together) to clean the house, so I try to keep little organizational systems for some of my stuff so I'm only doing the big chores (laundry, dishes, vacuum) and not spending too much time on little stuff.

I keep my large assortment of yarn in an under-the-bed shoe organizer! I was using a large basket, but I had SO MUCH yarn and needles that they were overflowing and getting messy, so I saw this baby on sale and made a new use for it! I also glued a pencil case to the plastic cover to keep my needles and etc in.

I don't like to keep the glue gun laying all over the place because I tend to use [too much of] it a lot. This little charging station was a kit left over from a kids workshop.

*A Helpful Hint* At Home Depot, every first Saturday of the month they have a FREE DIY kids workshop where they get to build something using tools and wood, it's a fun experience for them and something for you and your kids to do together!

I used mine to store my glue gun in the bottom and glue sticks in the top. They fit perfectly and I put note cards in the bottom to catch the glue drips so they don't get on anything important!

This used to be a cereal box! I diagonally cut the top off and mod podged scrapbook paper on the outsides. I use it mainly to hold paper scraps, little stickers, and things like that. It really keeps my drawers neater because there's not piles of scrapes in them! And it's pretty!

I also have quite a bit of left over ribbon. I keep them in a small plastic bin, but to keep them from unraveling and coming apart all in the box, I simply put a rubber band around them. I know, so simple, but that ribbon not staying on there just gets on my nerves so much! lol

If you have any simple organization tips, let me know! I love a simple fix! :)

A Couple of Band Nerds

Sappy Alert: It's a love story!!
Before I even started middle school, I knew I wanted to join the band when it was my time. Music has been my biggest passion over anything else my entire life. I own, and learn to play, any instrument I have enough money to buy! However, my band career instrument was always percussion, mostly the xylophone! Well, in 2007 I started college and joined my college's band. There I met this boy... He played the drums, he was kind of shy, he had long hair, and I fell hard!

We we're two band nerds who fell in love. Now, everything we do still revolves around music. We had a lot of awards and things from school that I really didn't know what to do with, but I wanted them displayed somehow. Hobby Lobby ran one of their fabulous 50% off specials, which included shadow boxes, so I figured that was my best bet!

Some things are blurred out because I originally just had this pinned on Pinterest and our names and schools and things were all over it. I could not fit everything we had in the shadow boxes, but most of it fit. I think they turned out pretty cute, I just have to get motivated to hang them up in our office/craft room!

A Take Out Book

I do cook a lot at home, but we live in a college town and both of us work crazy schedules, so we do our fair share of eating out. However, we both have the HARDEST time trying to figure out where to go! Sometimes we literally argue about who has to choose because neither of us want to pick! I thought it might make it a little easier if we get to see the options, so I made this take out book.

First I took the menus we already had on our fridge, cut out the ones printed in the phone book, and printed some off the internet.

I grabbed a binder and some sheet protectors to put everything in.

Each page went into a separate sheet protector and I paper clipped some of the restaurant coupons we had onto the inside pockets.

For the front, I had some scrapbook paper I cut down to regular printer paper size and printed out "Restaurant Take Out Book" on it to stick in the front cover. I think it will start to come in handy next time we order pizza lol.

Doggie Silhouettes

I really like silhouette paintings, pictures, cut-outs, any kind! When I was about 8, My mom and I went to Tennessee where we had our silhouettes cut out of paper while we sat in a chair and I thought that was just the neatest thing! I had these two small canvases left over from another project I did for one of my co-workers and I wanted to do something with my puppies on them. I thought it would be neat to somehow have a silhouette of them, but I had to figure out how to get one. I originally thought I should find one of their pictures and cut it out, but I didn't have a really good one. Then, I just googled it, and BAM, perfect Lab and Chihuahua silhouettes to use!

I printed these out on some card stock printer paper (I have a TON left over from out wedding I'm trying to find things to do with lol) and cut them out. Then I just taped them to the middle of the canvases and painted around them, including on top of the edges of the cut outs. After the paint dried, I peeled them off and had to touch up just a little with some white paint where it tried to bleed underneath.

I love them! I hung them with our [sort of] engagement pictures over the couch. Everybody loves them, next time I'll get a little more wild on the color!

"All About You" Blog Tag

I was tagged by my SIL, Rebekah @ Accidentally Wonderful for the All About You Blog Challenge! You should go check out her page, she comes up with some great recipes and is an amazing painter! The challenge is to answer 10 questions about yourself and then tag other bloggers to join in the fun!

1.       What is a secret no one knows about you?
I am scared of the dark. I don't even like walking around my house at night if no lights are. If it's storming and the power goes out, I'm always the one that screams lol.

2.       What is one of your greatest loves?
Music, definitely. I don't know what I would do without it. I have to always be listening to or humming or playing something.

3.       What is one of your greatest fears?
I gave away one in the first answer, but my biggest fear is Spiders! If I see one, I run away from it... even though it might not be moving lol.

4.       What is your deepest wish?
I want to be able to help kids who are going through what I've had to go through in life so that they will have the will to make something better for themselves.

5.       Where would you live if you could live anywhere?
I want to live somewhere towards the coast, at most a 30 minute drive from the beach. My dad lives in Gulf Shores and when we visit him I feel like I could stay there forever, even my husband says he feels like he would be so happy living with the salty air!

6.       What is your favorite food?
Technically, it's french fries... what, that's not a real food? It is to me! :) I love things made from/with potatoes!

7.       What is your favorite book?
I don't really read a whole lot, but my favorites that I have read were The Other Boleyn Girl and Holes. The movies did end up a little different, but I loved them, too.

8.       What is your favorite movie?
I have two: Moulin Rouge and Practical Magic. I'm also a Potterhead and own every Harry Potter movie, I could watch them everyday!

9.       What is your favorite song?
I don't have an overall favorite, I actually get different favorites like every month lol. Right now, my favorite song is Gotye - Somebody That I Used to Know. The new Linkin Park cd is coming out very soon, so It's pretty much a given one of those songs will be my next favorite. lol

10.   Post a picture of yourself
This is a picture my husband took of me one day when he decided he wanted to be creative with my camera  lol, I think he did a pretty good job. =)

Photo Challenge Weekend

Ok, the first challenge I'm doing this weekend is at Our Reflection, and the theme this week is "water." This is a picture I took at the aquarium while we were on our honeymoon! I love jellyfish... except for that time they stung me.

Our Reflection Photo Challenge

The second photo challenge I'm doing is at My 3 Boybarians, and the theme is "Things that grow." This is one of too many trees that grow in our back yard... I can't wait to get some of them cleared out lol.
